With reference to your letter of the 5th

September last, No. 30587,' relative to the conditions under which men are entered for the Hong Kong Colonial Police Force, I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to request that you will be good enoh to in- form them what are the limits of are of entry and discharge of these men, and how the pensions after 15 years service are calculated.

Their Lordships also desire me to submit, for your favourable consideration, a proposal that an equitable arrangement might be come to whereby the Colonial Police Force at Hong Kong might, he increased with a view to sur- plying the Naval Establishments at that Fortwith Officers and Men as required, on lines similar to those followed in the case of the Metropolitan Folice in England, who are lent for service in the Home Dockyards.

I am to add that my Lords consider that the cir- cumstances which prompted the then Secretary of State for the Colonies, to disallow the Ordinance passed in 1865 authorizing the loan of Colonial Police to the Admiralty for service in the Hong Kong Dockyard, have probably greatly altered, and they have therefore brought, forward this ques- tion again for re-considerstion.
